G-PRII is being kept as original as possible, with the intent of restoring her to Admiral's Barge colours at the first opportunity.

Until now the original cartridge start system has been used, with some spectacular wet starts as shown below at Leuchars in September.

However with the reducing supply of cartridges, and out of respect to the engine, a new electric start system is presently being fitted. This should produce smoother and less stressful starts.

To achieve this, the old huge TACAN electrics box has been removed to make way for the batteries and start system. The TACAN selector box and indicating instrument still remain in the cockpit to maintain an authentic look.

As part of the upgrade, a Mode S Transponder, a Funkwerk ATR833 VHF Transceiver, stopwatch and a Garmin Aera 500 GPS navigation unit are being discretely added to the cockpit. The original working Mode C transponder and radios will remain as a backup.
